Good Samaritan or Hidden Suspect?
What began as a theft report turned into a case of double trouble when a Chibolya man ended up being arrested while trying to report someone else.Luckson Mazuba, 27, of Chibolya Compound, approached police on April 15, 2025, with the intention of reporting a suspected phone thief. He brought along 20-year-old Misheck Mweemba, whom he accused of stealing his iPhone 6, valued at K1,800.
According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga, Mweemba was taken into custody at Chibolya Police Post and later transferred to Lusaka Central Police for further questioning.
From Victim to Suspect
However, during interviews in the early hours of April 16, the story took an unexpected twist. Mweemba denied stealing the phone and instead accused Mazuba of possessing an illegal firearm.Acting swiftly, police apprehended Mazuba, who eventually led them to a garbage dump site in Chibolya where a revolver pistol was recovered.
The weapon had no serial number, lacked ammunition, and appeared to be in poor condition — signs suggesting it had been hidden and unlawfully held.
Police say regardless of its condition, the revolver constitutes an illegal firearm under Zambian law, and its possession is a serious offense.
Both men remain in custody as investigations continue, turning what seemed like a simple theft complaint into a deeper criminal case.
