LUSAKA, Zambia — Independent Lumezi Member of Parliament, Munir Zulu, appeared before the Lusaka Magistrates' Court on April 8, 2025, to face three counts of seditious practices. Allegations of Seditious Practices

The seditious charges stem from statements Zulu allegedly made between May 25 and May 27, 2024. He is accused of claiming that President Hakainde Hichilema directed the Inspector General of Police and the Minister of Home Affairs to eliminate him and others, aiming to incite discontent among the populace. Additionally, Zulu purportedly declared the Eastern Province a "no-go area" and a "danger zone" for Southerners, actions believed to foster ill will between communities. (Source)

Judgment Date Set

Magistrate Faides Hamaundu has scheduled the judgment for May 20, 2025, after the defense closed its case. Zulu's legal team has indicated plans to call multiple witnesses in his defense.
