FAZ AGM Cancelled Amid Legal Battle

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has canceled its much-anticipated Annual General Meeting (AGM) after a court order halted the event. The AGM was set for March 29, 2025, in Livingstone but was called off on the eve of the meeting.

The legal action was initiated by Elijah Chileshe and Blackwell Siwale, who challenged FAZ’s handling of its electoral process. Their lawyers, Lewis and Nathan Advocates, secured the court order that forced the association to suspend proceedings. FAZ has since assured members that further guidance will be provided.

This development follows months of controversy over FAZ President Andrew Kamanga’s re-election. He ran unopposed after eight candidates were disqualified, leading to allegations of unfair rule changes. Some candidates claim Kamanga altered constitutional requirements to remain in power.

Disqualified candidate Godfrey Chikumbi has since reported the matter to Zambia’s Anti-Corruption Commission and Drug Enforcement Commission. He alleges constitutional forgery and manipulation within FAZ’s leadership. The association, however, insists that all disqualifications followed legal procedures.

The cancellation of the AGM adds more uncertainty to the future of Zambian football. Many stakeholders now await FAZ’s next steps in addressing these disputes. A new date for the AGM is yet to be announced.
