Joint Operation Leads to Major Seizure

A 27-year-old Indian national, Aamir Soeb Patel, was intercepted at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (KKIA) in Lusaka on 18th April 2025 while attempting to smuggle millions of dollars and suspected gold out of the country.

Officers from DEC and State Security Agencies Involved

The operation was led by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in collaboration with other State Security Agencies (SSAs), who were monitoring outbound passengers at KKIA.

USD2.32 Million and 7 Suspected Gold Pieces Found

Authorities discovered USD2,320,000 and seven pieces of suspected gold, estimated at USD500,000, concealed in the suspect’s luggage during a routine check.

Suspect Was Heading to Dubai

Patel, who was en route to Dubai, was immediately taken into custody and is currently assisting authorities with further investigations into the source and intended use of the illicit assets.

Investigation into Transnational Crime Underway

DEC officials have launched a broader probe to determine whether this case is linked to any transnational crime syndicates or money laundering networks operating in the region.
