Kalabo District Receives 1 New Ambulance to Boost Referral Services

Government Delivers on Rural Healthcare Promise

Kalabo District has received a brand-new ambulance from the Ministry of Health, a move expected to significantly improve emergency health services and strengthen the local referral system. The ambulance, officially handed over yesterday, is part of a broader initiative to enhance healthcare delivery in rural Zambia.

Handover Ceremony Held at District Level

The handover ceremony was conducted by Acting District Nursing Officer Mr. Liwakala Liwakala, who presented the ambulance and its accompanying documentation to Kalabo Town Council Secretary, Mr. Alisinda Nawa, on behalf of the District Health Director.

Support from ZNPHI and the World Bank

Procured under the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) programme with support from the World Bank, the vehicle has been assigned to Sishekanu Mini Hospital. It will play a critical role in responding to medical emergencies and referring patients to higher-level facilities for specialized care.

Local Leadership Expresses Gratitude

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nawa expressed deep appreciation to the government for prioritizing rural healthcare. “This ambulance has come at a crucial time. It will help save lives and improve the efficiency of our health referral system,” he stated.

Call for Responsible Use and Maintenance

He further praised the Ministry of Health for its continued commitment to delivering essential medical services in underserved areas. Mr. Nawa also encouraged the District Health Office to ensure the vehicle is well maintained and used responsibly to serve the people of Kalabo.

Improved Emergency Access for Kalabo

Residents of Kalabo District have long faced challenges in accessing timely emergency care due to transportation constraints. The arrival of this ambulance is expected to reduce delays in transporting patients, especially in critical cases that require immediate attention.
