UK Firm Promises to End Zambia’s Loadshedding in Six Months with 5,000MW Boost
UK’s Echo Eight promises 5,000MW clean energy in 6 months to end Zambia’s loadshedding. Govt open to fast-track real power solutions.

Zambia’s ongoing loadshedding crisis may soon have a surprising solution from a UK-based company, Echo Eight Investments Limited.

The firm has proposed to add 5,000 megawatts of clean energy to Zambia’s national grid within six months.

This proposal was made during a high-level meeting in London between Energy Minister Makozo Chikote and Echo Eight executives.

According to the Zambia High Commission in London, the Minister welcomed the offer, calling it timely and practical.

First Secretary for Press Speedwell Mupuchi said Zambia is tired of promises and needs real solutions that restore power fast.

Echo Eight’s CEO David Green claimed the company has ready capital and advanced technology to back the proposal.

The firm plans to deploy 3D solar panels, rooftop wind turbines, and hybrid battery systems as part of the package.

However, many Zambians are skeptical. They want to know the cost, the deal with Zesco, and power purchase pricing.

No clear details have been shared on how the project will be financed or integrated into Zambia’s power infrastructure.

A similar 2023 promise by a UAE firm to supply 2,000MW remains unfulfilled, adding to public doubt.

Government officials say they are willing to fast-track credible investments, especially those with measurable impact within months.

Zambia’s long-term energy target is 9,000MW, and the country aims to become a regional electricity hub in Southern Africa.

As loadshedding continues to disrupt lives, many citizens are watching this new UK promise with cautious optimism.
