Sesheke UPND Member of Parliament, Romeo Kangombe, has strongly criticized the high cost of fuel in Zambia, calling for the immediate ban of Agro-Fuel from participating in fuel importation.
Kangombe, in a statement posted on his Facebook page, questioned why the government was preventing people from buying cheaper fuel from neighboring countries while failing to address the high prices locally.
“You want to stop people from buying fuel outside the country in drums, but what about reducing the price here?” he asked.
He blamed a small group of individuals for misleading leadership with inaccurate information, insisting that the only solution is to reduce costs.
Calls for Urgent Action
Kangombe argued that no single company should have the power to control Zambia’s fuel system, calling Agro-Fuel’s monopoly a threat to the nation’s economy.
“No way someone can hold the entire system and nation at ransom. Agro-Fuel should be stopped from fuel importation—enough damage has been done,” he said.
He further emphasized the need for government officials to step out of their offices and experience the daily struggles of ordinary Zambians.
“Leave those offices and jump on buses—from Mtendere, to Kalingalinga, to Six Miles—then go back and compare notes. You will return home stressed,” he advised.
Commitment to Speaking the Truth
Kangombe assured that he would not sugarcoat the issue, stating that true leaders must speak up for the people.
“We need to help the President if we love him. Those that speak the truth are the real lieutenants. Hate me now, appreciate me later!”
His remarks have sparked debate, with many citizens echoing similar frustrations over the rising cost of fuel.
